Cast iron fittings: big problems of large diameters

It is impossible to imagine a modern pipeline system without connecting fittings of various modifications, types and types.

To connect large diameter pipe systems, cast iron fittings are most commonly used. They are made by casting from malleable cast iron with further turning. Malleable cast iron is the best material for providing reliable and durable joints. Malleable iron products are an impeccable guarantee of a rational ratio of the purchase price and the material used.

Cast iron fittings are an integral part of pipelines for any purpose. Having undeniable advantages over other fittings, such as: a long service life of 50 to 70 years or more, high strength, corrosion resistance, the ability to withstand large pressure and temperature surges, they have passed the test of time since the days of the USSR.

Specialists are more skeptical about the shortcomings, and they (the disadvantages) also exist: it is a big weight of the structure, and a lot of labor, and some inconvenience during installation, and a rough inner surface, which as a result leads to overgrowing and deposits inside.

But the biggest drawback of cast-iron fittings of large diameters is that in Ukraine their production is not established and they are mainly imported from abroad. And since their cost is high: it is tens of thousands of hryvnias, then none of the suppliers is going to create large stocks in warehouses. Basically, there is trade on order, which increases delivery times, sometimes up to several months. Pricing is very spontaneous, not true.Very often, luring customers, the Internet is full of low prices for cast iron products. Designers and estimators put these prices into estimates, customers are guided by them, but with real purchases everything looks very different. Many enterprises that fulfill government orders and build serious budget facilities have to deal with great difficulties in acquiring cast iron fittings. Prices become unpredictable and deadlines unrealistic. There is no time to wait months, there is no place to pay exorbitant prices, so you have to look for an alternative: steel fittings.

Steel fittings with good performance are a worthy alternative to cast iron. World practice shows that steel fittings are successfully used. Very often, luring customers, the Internet is full of low prices for cast iron products. Designers and estimators put these prices into estimates, customers are guided by them, but with real purchases everything looks very different. Therefore, summarizing all the above, it is safe to say that steel fittings are no worse than cast iron. The main thing is not to make a mistake in quality when choosing a manufacturer, that is, not to forget about the so-called "good performance".
